
SACRISTANS

ALTAR SERVERS
Individuals who assist at the Altar during the Celebration of Mass. They are vested in cassock/surplice, the ones to carry the processional crucifix/candles, and assist the priest and deacon during the Liturgy with the Roman Missal and Sacred Vessels. Altar Servers can be anyone who has received their First Communion, has a love for the Liturgy, and a commitment of service to the parish. LECTORS
These individuals are sometimes also called “readers;” they are responsible for proclaiming the Word of God through the public reading of Sacred Scripture during Mass. They should be individuals who can speak well in front of others, who have a love and devotion to the Sacred Scriptures and are fully initiated Catholics who are at least 16 years old. EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION -EMHCs
EMHCs are individuals who serve in an extraordinary capacity when there are insufficient number of Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (ie: Clergy). They assist the clergy with the Distribution of Holy Communion during Mass, as well as bringing Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. Prerequisites to be an EMHC include that individuals are 18 years or older, fully initiated Catholics, and have a formal mandate and commissioning into this ministry here in the Diocese of Grand Rapids.* *By becoming an EMHC at the Basilica of Saint Adalbert, you will be mandated and commissioned to do this ministry if you are not already mandated/commissioned elsewhere in this Diocese. USHERS/GREETERS
Our ushers and greeters are individuals who help to foster an atmosphere of welcome and hospitality to all who walk through the Basilica doors. They are responsible for greeting people, handing out worship aids before Mass, and they assist with answering questions, way finding, seating folks when seating is limited and the offertory collection. They also hand out the Sunday Bulletins as people leave from Mass. Men, women and families are encouraged to join this ministry. For more information, contact Justin Wiltse at worship@basilicagr.org
COR JESU VOLUNTEER
This is our monthly First-Friday Devotion in honor of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. During this worship event, people come to encounter the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through Eucharistic Exposition, Sacred Music, and the Sacrament of Penance. This event draws people from many parishes. Individuals are needed to serve as Hospitality Greeters, Confession Line Coordinators, Altar Servers for Exposition and Solemn Benediction, as well to help with setup and cleanup.
